The British Ambassador, Simon Manley, held an event at the Melia Hotel in Alicante on Tuesday 21st May to say thank you to all the Volunteers from different expat groups on the Costa Blanca who, in his words “Have helped enable him and the Consulate staff in Spain to do their jobs.”

HELP President Christine Baillie and HELP Office Manager Joan Mitchell represented HELP Murcia Mar Menor at the event and took the opportunity to mingle with the other charity workers whilst enjoying the drinks and canapes supplied on the hotel terrace.
Simon Manley, who will be stepping down this summer, has represented the Queen in Spain since 2013, was educated at Oxford and Yale before joining the British FCO. He has a Spanish wife Maria Isabel and three daughters and said he had no idea what he would be doing next, but was looking forward to a new challenge having enjoyed his life in Spain for the last five years.

HELP has been asked many times by the British Consulate to help both expats and visitors to the Mar Menor area who have required our assistance and, thankfully, the Charity has always been able to give the support and assistance required and will continue to do so to the best of its ability.

HELP MMM Gives San Pedro Charity A Boost

At the June meeting of ADAPT, the San Pedro based organisation, HELP Murcia Mar Menor’s President Christine Baillie presented a cheque for €3,000 to Begoña Rodriguez and M: Dolores Rueda from
El Samaritano (San Pedro).

A locally based organisation, El Samaritano helps those in need in the area who are unable to claim any support from the Government and are in dire need of some help. The charity has been receiving support from ADAPT for many years, but it still needs additional help to carry on their good work.
It is HELP’s policy to donate to other charities within the Murcia region each year, money that has been made from the work of their volunteers during the previous year. This year once again HELP will be donating a total of €12,000 to help others; this being the first donation of 2019. El Samaritano was put forward by one of HELP’s members at their AGM in accordance with their statute. ADAPT, who have made regular donations to El Samaritano, will oversee the distribution of this money over the coming months as requested by HELP.

If you feel you could donate a few hours a week of your time to assist HELP, please contact the office on 968 570 059 or visit our outlet at the Oasis Centre in Los Alcazares. One of our volunteers will always be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the Charity.
