I’m sure everyone experiences that feeling of utter satisfaction when a plan comes together; when something you’ve worked so hard for comes to fruition and is a success. The members of the Harlequin Rock Choir certainly did when we performed, for the first time, our full compilation of songs from The Greatest Showman. When the audience gave us a standing ovation it was overwhelming!
This memorable event took place at the end of October when we held a concert at Alley Palais on Camposol to raise funds for the charity Help the Poor. We were all entertained at the start of the evening by John Sloman’s wonderful guitar playing and, during the interlude, by our very own Andy Harding who sang and played his guitar in his own special way. The venue was packed with a generous audience who bought raffle tickets and donated non-perishable food for the poor. The total funds raised amounted to over 740€ plus approximately 300€ worth of food.
Just ten days later we appeared at the Costa Cálida Chronicle’s 20th Anniversary Trade Exhibition. After visiting the numerous stalls people were happy to sit and watch our performance of some of our favourite songs ending with our Greatest Showman compilation. We heard later that the Trade Exhibition, together with the Costa Cálida Chronicle’s Poppy Appeal, raised over 1,000€ for the Royal British Legion. Congratulations to the Costa Cálida Chronicle for a wonderful day and on your 20th Anniversary.
The end of the year is going to be as busy for us as the rest of the year with us singing a couple of songs at the ‘Star’ memorial at the Tanatoria in Mazarrón on Monday 2nd December.
We will also be at the monthly market for Friends of Mazarrón Animals in Isla Plana on Saturday 7th December.
On Thursday 12th December we are at the new Captain’s ‘drive in’ at Camposol’s Golf Club when Father Christmas will also be handing out presents to the children of the area.
By the time you read this it will have been recorded at our AGM that since the last AGM we have helped charities raise 8,500€. What a year it has been!
