Lorca

Lorca is the largest town in Spain by area, stretching across an entire valley and with a municipal township that reaches the coast with a population of around 77,500. Lorca is probably the most important tourist centre in the region. It has mountains to a height of 1.500m to the Northwest and an 8km coastline. The surrounding area is covered with vineyards, almond and olive trees. The beautiful countryside includes the Sierra Espuña and the Sierra Los Vélez, which can be seen in the distance. The attraction of Lorca lies in its history with the Castle being one of the most visited sights. To see the sights in Lorca, there is a small train that takes you round the area. Lorca is very accessible, with good motorways running close by and the railway station that takes you straight in to Murcia. Market day is every Thursday where you can buy locally produced fruit and vegetables.
