This article will be one of celebration and gratitude.
Firstly we want to say a big THANK YOU to all the members of the charity organisation, MAD, Making a Difference, for their generous donation in answer to our call to help Cavalli Foundation start up work in New Rancho Cavalli. MAD will be sponsoring another therapeutic programme of Early Learning Riding. The children who come to us, basically from Alhama Council Social Services, all have limited means and all have learning and communication difficulties, generally connected with different grades of Autism. The programmes that have been run so far have had amazing success as you can see from the photo on the right.
In spite of the sadness and loss we feel in our hearts, we also want to give thanks for the opportunity of knowing and sharing our lives with Alma. I picked her up about 5 years ago from the petrol station forecourt in Librilla to save her from being taken to the pound. The girl that filled my car told me the police were on the way. I wouldn’t have given a penny for her life at that moment, but was pleasantly surprised when the vet told me she had Leishmania but it wasn’t as bad as she looked – and she looked bad! Anyway we went home and, together, started her long journey back to health. She turned into a huge, gentle beautiful dog, giving and receiving love as only she knew how. She left us last week. R.I.P. Alma!
I’ve been studying all summer, on an online course in how to run a successful Crowdfunding Campaign. It’s been hard work as I’m not very adept with the media and modern technology, but I’m pleased to tell you all that by the time this issue is published we will be only 4 days away from launch date on 5th November. I’m campaigning to finance the building work necessary to move the Cavalli Foundation and the 70 animals we have in refuge with us, to New Rancho Cavalli. If anyone would like to give us a hand through a donation, by organising a quirky fundraising campaign, by becoming a Cavalli Volunteer, or just by sharing with all your friends and contacts, take a look at our website www.cavallifoundation.org, click on Facebook, our campaign page, or follow us on Instagram/Twitter.
One of our Pony Club kids, Alfie, did a 24-hour Sponsored Silence a couple of weeks ago. He’ll be here for half term and we’re dying to see how he got on. We’ve had the donation from MAD and there are a few more schemes cooking in the area. We’ll let you all know how we got on in the December issue.
