As I sit writing this article (middle of August), I can definitely say summer is upon us. The heat at times has been unbearable and that of course leads to some security issues.

Unfortunately, the good weather spells opportunity for some unscrupulous thieves that move amongst us. There have been a number of opportunist-type burglaries where offenders have used poles to steal property via windows left open overnight. Items stolen have included wallets, purses, mobile phones, tablets, and car keys (and subsequently the car). If you have to leave your windows open, please remove anything of value and take it to bed with you. If you have roller shutters then make sure these are also closed.

A lot of this is common sense, but unfortunately people do tend to put their guard down when on holiday and this can lead to an unhappy and unwanted situation. In addition to this, there have been a couple of burglaries whilst occupants have gone out for the evening. Doors and rejas have been forced which must have made quite a noise. Please, if you do hear anything unusual please report it to the Guardia (112) and then to the Security Group on Facebook.

Overall, the spike in burglaries has been a lot less than previous holiday times and this is, undoubtedly, as a result of people taking action to secure their properties more thoroughly. Your actions are now paying dividends. That said, we can always do a little bit more to make it even harder for the criminals. Should anyone be considering having an alarm fitted please do your homework and choose one that best suits your needs. There are a number of reputable local companies who are very competitive at the moment. If you do go ahead, please mention the Camposol Security Group.

One of our Coordinators is currently developing an information sheet aimed particularly at holiday makers and offering security advice and what to do should you be a victim of crime. These will be distributed in bars and made available to the rental sector. Hopefully, this will help us reduce crime further.

I would personally like to thank all our Coordinators and Admin team for their continued support and hard work. You are making a difference.

Kind regards

Phil Wilcockson
