Tuesday Sprightly Group
by D Crosland
You may wonder what on Earth, in the middle of another unrelentingly scorching, flag-cracking day in Murcia would cause testosterone levels to rise so dramatically amongst a group of normally temperate blokes, not in the first flush of youth and a majority clad in autumn’s golden gown. Well, Golf would be the answer and more specifically a Sprightly Crew Away Day, an event that drags grown men (more or less) to relive days of past sporting glory and achievement and play it all out in five hours of intensive battle. This time it took place on the beautiful but formidable Condado de Alhama Signature course with its lush emerald fairways and greens. The course at times seems to defy the normal laws of physical motion; the kind that Newton was familiar with, as sweetly and momentarily admired shots were regularly found dumped in bunkers well short of their intended target, or magically pulled off course by some as yet unknown aquatic force to find yet another watery grave. To their credit, hearts, minds and tired limbs gave of their all and eventually in the late heat of an exhausting day some honourable winners were declared:
Overall Winners of The Pinehurst Pairs
Paul Betts and Rob Allen 82
2nd – Phil Kasey Smith and Roy Ashcroft 78
Longest Drive – Mike Hall
Nearest the Pin in two – ‘Nev’
Nearest Pin Winners – Rob Allen and Phil Halton
Many thanks to all of you who made this such a great day out.
