The Camposol and District Model Club has been established for around four years now and is open to anyone interested in scale models or model engineering. While the main focus is model railways, other members specialise in different areas such as model ships and road transport. This diversity has proved to be of benefit to the club as, if a particular club member has a problem to solve, there is usually someone within the group who can come up with a solution.

We meet each month either at a convenient central location or someone’s house to discuss progress and exchange ideas. A recent visit was to see Byford a large layout built in a garage (the car stays outside it takes second place!).

Byford

This layout is a large 00 gauge system approximately 7.5 by 3.5 metres. Set in the 1950/60’s, it gives the opportunity to run a good selection of suitable model steam and diesel locomotives, many with sound fitted.

One side is occupied by a 16 road storage yard with each track designed to accommodate two complete trains. On the opposite side is the main Station/Goods yard complex and other sections contain an Old Town, a Motive Power Depot and scenic Countryside.

The track and control system has been completed and uses a digital system enabling routes to be set either by the operator or through a simple computer system. The accompanying photos will hopefully give a better idea of progress so far and more are available on the website.

We are an informal group who are always willing to mix in and help each other, so whether you are a beginner who is not sure where to start, or someone who has been modelling for years, if you are interested in joining just call 666 186 037 (Richard).

For more information and to see the range of interests covered take a look at our website at www.camposolanddistrictmodelclub.webeden.co.uk  which shows many of our Members’ Projects and includes a contact page.
